Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information this website and I collect, why, who else handles it, and what you can ask me to do with it. “I” and “me” mean Danny Andrews, a sole trader trading as Local Web Studio in Prescot, Merseyside. I am responsible for your information (the data controller).

When you get in touch

If you use the contact form, it sends me your name, your business name, your phone number and email address, how you found me and what you tell me about your project. The form passes these to me as an email, through an email delivery service called Resend; the website itself does not keep a copy. If you email, call, text or WhatsApp me instead, I have whatever you send that way.

I use this only to reply to you, to talk about your project and, if you go ahead, to do the work and invoice for it. I never sell or share it with anyone for marketing. My reasons in law are that you asked me to get back to you, and, if you become a client, that I need it to do the work you have agreed.

When you recommend a business

If you recommend somebody on the referral page, it sends me your name and email or phone, the business you are recommending, and, if you add them, the details of the person to speak to there and a note. Like the contact form, this reaches me as an email through Resend and the website keeps no copy. If you give another person's details, you confirm they know you are passing them on. I use them to get in touch with that business once, and if they are not interested, I delete them. Your own details are used only to reply to you about it. My reason in law is my legitimate interest in following up a recommendation that was made, and agreed to, on purpose.

The free website health check

When you check a website, the address you type is used to load that page and measure it. Its speed is measured by Google PageSpeed Insights, so Google receives the address; if Google's service is unavailable, a service called DataForSEO may measure it instead. The speed result is kept for seven days against the web address, so checking the same site again is quick. Nothing about you is kept with it. To stop the tool being misused, the site counts how many checks come from each connection, and forgets the count within a day.

If you ask for the written report, I need your name and email address, and I record that you ticked the consent box, the wording you agreed to and when, and whether you asked for a free homepage concept. The report is emailed to you through Resend, I get an email telling me you asked for it, and the details may be added to my own customer records, kept in a service called Airtable. I use them to send the report and to follow up about your website, which is what you agreed to. You can withdraw that at any time by emailing me, and I will stop and delete your details.

Analytics: how the site counts visits

The site uses one analytics tool, Umami (Umami Cloud), to count visits and see which pages and buttons get used, such as how many people tap the phone number or send the form. Umami is designed not to collect personal data and does not use cookies.

None of the events sent to it include your name, email, phone number or message. The reason in law is my legitimate interest in knowing whether the website works.

The map on the contact page

The contact page shows a Google Map of Prescot. Loading it connects your browser to Google, which may set its own cookies and receive your IP address under Google's privacy policy. No other page loads it.

Hosting and your browser

The site is hosted by Vercel, which, like any web host, processes your IP address and basic request details in order to serve the pages and keep the site secure. If you type your business name into the box at the top of the homepage, it is kept in your own browser for that visit only (to fill in the contact form for you) and is not sent anywhere unless you send the form.

How long I keep it

Only for as long as I need it for the purpose above: dealing with your enquiry and, if you become a client, the work and any records I have to keep for tax. If you would like me to delete your information sooner, ask and I will.

Your rights

You can ask me for a copy of the information I hold about you, and ask me to correct it, delete it, or stop using it. Email danny@localwebstudio.co.uk. If you are unhappy with how I have handled your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk, though I would appreciate the chance to put it right first.
